Rental Info

Deana knows that it is important for many quilters to have full creative control — she feels the same way!  That's why DSQ offers longarm rental, not just as something on the side, but as our whole business.

How does it work?
First, you need to take a Training Class...
The 3 hour class starts with one hour of instruction on basic function, safety, machine set-up and quilt preparation. After that, you have the other two hours for learning new techniques and practice.
The cost is $50 and includes the needle and thread as well as some notes for future reference.  You will need to bring a crib size cotton batting (or you can purchase it from us) and two pieces of fabric at least 44x54.  We have kits available for purchase, upon request.

Ok, what then?
Once you've learned the basics, you can rent time on the machine for $10 per hour.  Reservations need to be made with Deana by phone or email.  We recommend that you plan on a minimum of two hours, even for a small quilt.  It's better to overbook time than run short.  An experienced quilter is always there to assist as you need.

How long does it usually take to quilt a...
Everyone quilts at a different speed and every pattern takes a different amount of time.  Deana's competition wearables can take over 12 hours for just a 12"x24" area.  On the other hand, a queen size t-shirt quilt may take 3-4 hours.  There's nothing set in stone.
That being said, for a simple freehand design from the front of the machine, it generally takes:
  • Crib Size (36" x 45") = 1-2 hours
  • Twin Size (63" x 87") = 2-3 hours
  • Double Size (78" x 87") = 3-4 hours
  • Queen Size (84" x 92") = 4-5 hours
  • King Size (100" x 92") = 5-6 hours
What pantograph designs do you have?
Because we do mostly custom quilting, we have a limited stock of pantographs.  If there is a pattern that you're interested in, we can always order it.  Don't forget to think outside the pantograph box and look at what designs you can quilt from the front!

Do you provide thread for free?
Yes and no.  Because we only use high quality, Superior Threads brand thread on our longarm, we do charge a fee for the thread.  Since most customers choose to use So Fine thread, we have included the cost of that thread in the hourly rental rate.  But we don't want to limit you to just one line of thread!  Any of the other thread lines are available for a small amount, charged per bobbin used.
If you have a particular thread you wish to use, please consult with us before your scheduled rental.  If it is a thread that we do not normally run, you will need to allow time for tension checks.
